Where did this man go? Why can't he recall those particular3 years of his disappearance? How is THIS POSSIBLE?

According to a doentary taken from a family in Russia, a Man in his early thirties sat with his guests at the dinner table & they all began to drink Vodka. As some may know, that usually when Vodka is drunk, something salty or sour; like a sour pickle should join the amount of the Liquor. The man announces to his family and guests that He will be back in 5 minutes with a few sour pickles from their basement's food stash, in which, has no other doors, windows or dugouts whatsoever! Long Story shorter; The man is reported missing, there are new people living in his old house, & 3 years later since that night, the man comes out to his astonishment and says, "Who are you people? What did you do to my house? No one couldn't wait 5 minutes for me?". It appeared the man did not know how long he was gone for- nor was he found. Yet he did look the same as he has 3 years before!! POLICE thoroughly investigated & found no answer to this"Disappearance"! HOW COULD THIS BE? *all answers welcome*
